Menear Ceramics Menear Ceramics Contemporary Studio Pottery

Menear Ceramics are Keith and Debbie Menear who make individual contemporary hand-made studio pottery.

The work of the pottery comprises glazed pieces in stoneware and porcelain designed to make full use of the surface decoration, together with garden ware which complement the form of the alpine and succulent plants that accompany the pieces.

All the work we make is produced in our studio pottery on the edge of the South Downs in rural West Sussex. It is here that we design all our pieces and make them by hand either on a potter’s wheel or by sculpturing from slabs of clay. The work is then decorated with our own glazes.

The design process can take 6-9 months of trial and error to get the form of the piece precisely how we wish. The glazes too can take many months of painstaking research to get the effect that will best complement the form.

Work from the pottery is available in a number of galleries throughout the UK.

Keith has spent his professional career as a Research Chemist in the pharmaceutical sector. Twenty years ago he was introduced to pottery by his wife, since then his hobby has become a full time preoccupation. His interests lie particularly with glaze chemistry on stoneware and raku clay bodies.

Keith is an associate member of the Craft Potters Association, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a member of the Southern Ceramic Group.

Debra is a trained Chemist and IT professional and has also trained in horticulture at Brinsbury Agricultural College in West Sussex. Her work reflects her love of plants with the focus of the pieces in high fire terracotta which complement the plants they house.

She is a member of the Royal Horticultural Society and the Southern Ceramic Group
