Alan Price-Roberts Alan Price-Roberts aka Alan Roberts

I moved to Torquay in 2000 and although my early years were with the Arts I became a broadcaster and worked with Off Shore Radio in the UK and the Mediterranean before taking up with local commercial and BBC Radio as a Presenter. After many years with such stations as BBC Radio London and Oxford, Swansea Sound, Severn Sound, GWR FM and eventually BBC Radio 2 where I was a Producer for eight years, I settled for Torbay and a peaceful life.
These days I still do a bit of Radio work and produce and present a syndicated show that is broadcast on FM and Internet Radio Stations across the world.
Educated at High Wycombe School of Art, and then The Berkshire College of Art at both Maidenhead and Reading. On leaving Art School I worked at the Studio of Stained Glass Artist Patrick Reyntein and then with my father an Art Blacksmith. I moved to Denmark where I was really impressed by the latter end of the COBRA Movement, some of the painters where still working in Christiania a Hippy Colony district of Copenhagen and I spent sometime tracking down Asger Jorn to his hometown of Silkeborg. He died when I was living in Copenhagen but moved me enough to start painting again. At this time I was inspired also by the German Expressionist School from Edvard Munch to Kirshner and Atlan.
When I left the BBC I spent my savings on a small gallery near my hometown of Marlow in Buckinghamshire but a Brunel bridge got in the way. I was on one side of the River Thames while most of my customers were on the other. The Local Council closed the bridge for 9 months and the gallery was history.
I took to painting again about ten years ago and for some time had to find my feet as I do really fall between the 1970's style of Modern and the catching up process.
Have previously had exhibitions in Copenhagen, Berlin, Silkeborg, also with the New English Art Club in London, a now defunct Newlyn Gallery, Bridge Gallery Maidenhead, Elizabeth Wintgens Marlow and Great Missenden. I was a member of the Chiltern Art Society and Group 64. Currently a committee member of both The Devon Art Society and Torbay Guild of Artists and a member of The St Ives Art Club. A small selection of my work can be seen at The Paint Town Gallery @ 74 Winner Street, Paignton.
