Pathways Photography Showcase

People involved in a photography group as part of Pathways in Mirfield will have their work showcased at the Creative Arts Hub in Mirfield from 29th April to 16th May.

Pathways, which is jointly run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Kirklees Council, provides a range of creative opportunities for people with mental health problems in order to help them recover.

The displayed photographs were produced over the course of a 20-week activity session, which aimed to encourage the group to come together and learn from one another’s interests and skills. One group member said of their experience of the group:

“Speaking for myself, I have extremely enjoyed being a part of Pathways Digital Photography Group. It has brought out the creative and imaginative side in all of us. It never surprises me when I see all the groups photos because most of the pictures are astonishing, as we are probably classed as novices, I guess all of us have done well.
No matter how experienced a photographer is, there is always something new to learn; new tricks, different angles, use of colour in good and bad light. I know I have learnt a lot from being in the group and I must admit that I will be really gutted when it ends, but all good things must come to an end sometimes. A big thanks to Leah and Danni for being so patient with us and taking us to so many locations, I think we all loved being involved.”

Leah, group facilitator at Pathways said:
“The photography group encourages members to see life differently and capture shots that they find unique or interesting. We’ve seen some really great photographs being taken by people attending the sessions. The group gives people the chance to try something new whilst meeting new people. Seeing their work displayed at a special exhibition which is open to the public, their family and friends is a great confidence boost and achievement for people.”

We welcome everyone to come down to view the photographs at the Creative Arts Hub, which will be open from Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm; and Saturday 10am to 3pm. The photographs are all on sale for £15 and the proceeds will be given to the group members and to benefit future photography groups at Pathways.
