Congleton seeks a Sculptor

Congleton seeks a Sculptor

Congleton seeks a Sculptor
Deadline: 28th May 2016
Budget: The Budget for the final piece is £5,000 (including VAT)
The Town of Congleton is looking to install a sustainable contemporary artwork as a celebration of a highly respected and loved leader of community activity. The Artwork will commemorate the life of Margaret Williamson who was active at all levels of the community inspiration behind many voluntary groups + organisations in Congleton. Margaret loved the park + played a key role in celebrating its 150 years anniversary + renovating it through a successful Heritage Lottery bid. Margaret’s love of nature and environmental sustainability was manifested through her work for the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Congleton in Bloom + helping to organise several Environmental Festivals in the Park. She also worked a great deal with children, encouraging them to experience the ‘Great Outdoors’ through activities like wildlife trails. Her sudden passing in April 2015 left the community reeling and the need to celebrate her love of life, her energy and her commitment has found expression in this project.

The Artwork should reflect the key aspects of Margaret’s life + work which could include: inspiration, interaction, enjoyment, generosity + liveliness expressed with contemporary elegance. It should express her love of the natural world + her commitment to sustaining the environment for future generations. The piece will need to be robust with low maintenance, and awareness of health and safety is key.
