Migration Matters Festival: New Work Commissions 2021

Migration Matters Festival: New Work Commissions 2021

Migration Matters Festival is now in its 6th year celebrating sanctuary in Sheffield and
online across the globe.

Now more than ever during this time of disconnect how the arts can be a powerful tool for social change and connectivity.

This year we will hold an in-person festival 9th-17th July as well as an online and digital festival as part of Refugee Week (14th-20th June).

The festival will commission a selection of work in line with the values and mission statement of the festival and that challenges, inspires and transforms the way people perceive issues around migration. We are interested in work that is multidisciplinary,
innovative, and culturally representative.

As the festival will be delivering a hybrid programme, they are looking for work that can be realised online, in-person or both spanning all artistic disciplines and formats.

For digital/online work this could include podcasts, livestream (theatre, spoken word and music), radio, exhibitions and installations.
Performance pieces should be between 30-60 minutes in length.

They are especially interested in work that:
• Work that is led by or involving people with lived experience of displacement or seeking sanctuary
• Transcends language barriers (not reliant on English)
• Work that is interdisciplinary
• Work that has bold and experimental ideas
• Work that sheds new light on a subject or issue
