UP CLOSE- an exhibition of printmaking from across the UK

This is the first solely 2D exhibition the Jubilee Gallery has mounted at the DEVON GUILD since opening in 2004. Three of my prints have been selected for this show. Two linocuts from my fabric book entitled CAUTIONARY TALES OF TWO ARMCHAIR TRAVELLERS and a drypoint entitled LA COCOTTE.

Selected by Michael Honnor, painter and printmaker, and Richard Anderton, MA.
Printmaking course leader at the University of the West of England, each exhibitor has worked to the same parameters of frame. It is hoped that each maker will experiment within the prescribed size to produce widely varying works allowing visitors to get up close to innovative handmade printmaking.

“Helen Snell combines lino-cut images onto pre printed
floral fabrics for her book Cautionary Tales of Two Armchair Travellers.
She is interested in what she refers to as to the ‘accessibility and inherent irony in the productionof multiples’, which is also informed by her chosen subject
matter of birth and reproduction . She will often print thesame image onto a variety of surfaces, exploring thenotion of combining the multiple and the unique. The
material on which she prints suggests elements of domesticity and a sense of security, whilst her subjectmatter might suggest an altogether different notion.”
