The Manchester Carols - an evening of Christmas music

The Manchester Carols (a collaborative work by composer Sasha Johnson Manning and Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy) is a collection of carols, linked by narration, which modernises the Christmas story.
It reflects today’s society acknowledging the fact that, even though someone might not subscribe to the religion behind the Nativity story, they can still appreciate it as an inspiring tale. The carols are for everyone, believers or not. The work also acknowledges the darker, grittier side of the nativity story - poverty, refugees, giving birth on the road and Jesus’ eventual fate on the cross.
The carols were written in Manchester in 2007 and first performed by children from different Manchester schools. We are delighted to bring this re-telling of the Christmas story to Hertford.
The second half of the concert will include favourite carols for choir and audience.
