Herts Musical Memories is a small charity founded to run singing groups for people living with dementia and their carers in Hertfordshire. Music is a powerful resource for people living with dementia - it can reduce agitation, anxiety and depression; and can improve communication skills and autobiographical memory. It can also play a huge role in prevention of illness, by maintaining wellbeing, and improving general cognition and attention.
HMM's runs 12 singing groups all over Hertfordshire, usually in community centers and church halls. Whilst the sessions are based in music therapy they are stimulating and fun - laughter is actively encouraged. People arrive to a warm welcome and light refreshments - songs are chosen from a range of decades and participants are encouraged to make their own song choices. Due to the current crisis HMM's sessions are being delivered via zoom. New members are warmly welcome. To find out more email admin@hertsmusicalmemories.org.uk or ring 020 8950 5757
