Colourful exhibition crowns Crabtree's Year of Art
An exciting display of 250 vibrant paintings filled the hall at Crabtree Junior school in Harpenden this week.
The exhibition, shared with parents at Open Evening on Thursday 14th July, marks the end of a fruitful ‘Year of Art’, which has been a collaborative project with local artist, Liz Sergeant. Working with Liz in small groups, the children explored famous artists such as Kandinsky, Mondrian and Matisse, and created their own response to the work using a variety of materials.
‘We wanted to offer the opportunity for each child to be inspired by working directly with a local artist,’ explained the headmaster, Mr Ian Pattrick. ‘As a result of these workshops, they have explored new techniques, and expanded their understanding and enjoyment of art.’
‘It has been a privilege to work with the Junior school this year, ‘ commented Liz. ‘The children have challenged themselves and each other to produce a piece of work they can be proud of. And now that their work has been mounted and displayed for the exhibition, we have all been wowed by the results of their creativity.’
