The Great Wave in glass
My interpretation of the famous Japanese painting 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa' by Katsushika Hokusai. Each of the six tiles is constructed of up to six layers of glass in order to create the same feeling of depth that the original painting conveys. The image was produced by layering the glass and then tinting it with powdered frit suspended in a liquid medium. The pieces were then fired on a 'tack' fusing cycle to retain the overall thickness and create the desired depth
