Pride Torbay Star Wins Second TV Talent Show

Organisers of Pride Torbay are over-the-moon that Joe McElderry has won Popstar to Operstar and his second TV talent show. The X Factor winner is headlining at their Pride in the Park event on Saturday 30th July in Hollicombe Park (between Torquay and Paignton)alongside Diva Fever (X Factor 2010), Shaun Smith (Britain’s Got Talent 2009), DreamBears (Britain’s Got Talent 2009), Jill Jackson. Boy Banned, The Sundaes, Chelcee Grimes and The Boy George Experience.

Matt Newbury, Pride Torbay Chair said: “ We booked Joe shortly after his one year recording contract with Simon Cowell had expired, as we thought the ‘out’ gay singer would make an ideal star for our showcase park event. We had heard rumours that something else was in the pipeline, but had no idea that it was a prime time ITV1 Show, which he would go on it win!

“We understand Joe will be announcing a new recording contract next week as well as a new album, although we have no idea if it will be pop or opera! Due to the success of the show, he was forced to cancel a few smaller shows over the next couple of weeks, making Pride Torbay the first big gig he will perform at after winning, which is amazing. We want to stress that this concert is open to everyone open-minded and who knows how to have, fun regardless of their sexuality. The day also supports valuable local charities including Rowcroft Hospice and Eddystone Trust

The park party which runs from 12pm till 8pm, will also feature fair rides, community and commercial stalls, food outlets, bars, a Pimms and picnic area and the Marldon Marquees Dance Tent. The event is being proceeded by a Rainbow Walk, taking people from Beacon Quay in Torquay to the park. Other events over the festival, which runs from Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st July include a screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in Paignton, a musical boat cruise called Showboat, Now That’s What I Call An 80’s party at Club Rainbow and an exclusive Saturday night after-party at The Pavilion in Torquay with the stars of Pride Torbay.

Tickets for Pride in the Park are currently £12.50 and are available on-line at www.pridetorbay.org for the next few days, as well as the Torquay Visitor Information Centre.
