The 10th Brontë Festival of Women’s Writing presents a special event with Samira Ahmed about Anne Brontë.

In 2018, Samira Ahmed visited the Brontë Parsonage Museum library and spent the afternoon viewing letters, belongings and relics belonging to Anne Brontë, developing an interest in Anne’s life and work that had started during her time as an undergraduate. Now, in this special event, Samira will revisit these iconic and poignant collection items with Audience Development Officer Lauren Livesey, discussing how these artefacts help us to shape and develop our understanding of Anne’s spirit and fortitude. The conversation will bring to the fore the items and issues that preoccupied Anne in the 1830s, and which continue in many cases to have multiple resonances with contemporary audiences.

Samira Ahmed is a multi award winning journalist and broadcaster. She won Audio Broadcaster of the Year at the 2020 British Press Guild Awards for her work as a presenter of Front Row on Radio 4 and her Podcast How I Found My Voice.

Samira also presents the weekly programme Newswatch on BBC One. She presented the three part series, The Art of Persia, filmed in Iran, for BBC Four and broadcast in June 2020. Samira’s radio documentaries include Laura Ingalls’ America, John Ruskin’s Eurythmic Girls, I Dressed Ziggy Stardust, HG Wells and the H Bomb, Riding Into Town (about her love of Westerns) and The Fundamentalist Queen (about the life of Oliver Cromwell’s wife). Samira was previously a presenter and correspondent at Channel 4 News.
