Solar Plate Printmaking
This workshop is complex and is recommended for experienced participants. It will demonstrate how to establish images onto metal plates by means of exposure to UV light - either in sunlight or indoors with a UV lamp.
It is a safe and non-toxic process enabling the use of photographic and drawn images and also relief prints using found objects like leaves and feathers to be establilshed on a metal plate. These plates are then inked and put through the press with dampened paper to draw out the image.
Participants will make their own plates, learning about using screens depending on whether a relief or an Intaglio image is wanted. You will learn how to ink plates in both relief & Intaglio method and print them onto high-quality cotton rag paper.
Length of course – 5 hours.
