Townscape Art Trail: a portrait

I'm a British painter, predominantly in oils, based in East Grinstead.

I adore painting people, relishing the challenge to get an accurate likeness whilst trying to keep my brush marks lively, colourful and interesting. I love vibrant colour and enjoy enhancing the unusual but subtle tones that inhabit the everyday, though often going unnoticed. My chief aim is to fragment what is seen by the eye, into a complex pattern of colour & brush-stroke, whilst maintaining a likeness of my subject.

I have been drawing and painting in a life group for over a decade and regularly take on portrait commissions. In recent years I've added to the challenge and the passion, in my study of horses which I intend to be an on-going theme in my work. I have also worked on a number of landscapes, based on the Ashdown Forest, which is local to me.

Kent Institute of Art and Design (1994 - 1997)
BA (hons) Communication Media, specialising in Illustration (first class). The college is now part of the University of the Creative Arts.
