Tony Harmel started making woodcarvings in 2005. Having never worked with any creative craft before, he had no inkling at all that he had the potential, will and ability to learn a skill like woodcarving. Although his work began as therapy with artist Steve Pratt who continues to work with him, for Tony it has become an engrossing activity that is now an essential part of his life. Their work together is now based at Lupton House in Churston where he can practise his craft in a relaxed and peaceful environment conducive to creativity. Against the odds, he has confronted the challenges imposed on him by illness and through the beautiful things he makes has found a new and real sense of personal achievement .
