One Step Beyond… | An exhibition by Kris Gruber

One Step Beyond… presents a series of images that move beyond traditional photography through digital experimentation and transformation. Using a range of tools, including artificial intelligence, Kris’s work focuses on realising imagined images rather than adhering to a single medium.

A Note from the Artist:

I’ve titled this exhibition “One Step Beyond…” for two reasons. Firstly because I take a lot of inspiration from song (and book) titles and secondly because the images I’ve selected for the most part are at least one step beyond photography. There are two ‘straight’ photographic images, the remainder may have an element of photography in them, or they may not. What I can say is that all the images owe at least something to digital editing!

I’m aware that the use of Artificial Intelligence in art is viewed by some as controversial; I take the view that it is just another tool in my armoury to realise the images trying to escape my imagination. Whatever your view, I hope you enjoy viewing the images

Artist Statement

Kris Gruber is an established photographer with many years’ experience of photography at events and in the entertainment industry.

Away from the pressures of photographing weddings and performers, Kris explores abstract and landscape imagery, as well as using digital tools to create whimsical pieces based around ideas, book titles, song titles and a fevered imagination! The pieces exhibited here encompass straight photographs, blended images using a mixture of photos and digital techniques and purely digital pieces.

All the works are printed by the photographer using professional quality Canon Lucia pigment inks onto archival grade paper, either smooth or matte depending on the image. In both cases the carefully chosen combination of ink and paper creates images of stunning colour and contrast range, with the benefit of extreme longevity.

The prints are all limited editions, hand numbered and signed by the photographer on the reverse.
