UNDERGRADUATE - The BA Fine Art course at Chichester enables you to specialise from the outset, or experiment with a wide range of disciplines and media to help you to establish a particular personal approach. You will be encouraged to investigate a range of working methods and visual processes in an exploration of personal ideas. You will work in studio and workshop spaces on self initiated studio proposals.
The following options are available:
• Multi-disciplinary/general Fine Art
• Painting
• Printmaking (ie silkscreen, etching, relief print)
• Sculpture (including ceramics, welding and casting hot metal)
• Textiles (including feltmaking, weaving, embroidery)
• Photography and video
• Installation; sound and projection
BA Single honours students will be offered a studio space and have access to fully equipped workshop areas to develop skills in a wide range of materials and techniques, for example; drawing, painting, printmaking, digital art and sculpture (inc. welding, bronze or aluminium casting, carving,
plaster, ceramics, woodwork) and textiles (inc. Feltmaking & Dyeing, weaving, embroidery and printing on fabric).
Our fine art lecturers, all respected, practising artists, have expertise across these specialist areas. They ensure that the department is relaxed and friendly, that students are motivated to achieve their full potential, and that they are supported in their studies.
POST-GRADUATE - The focus of the Fine Art MA route will be on practice-based Fine Art research in one or more of the following:
• painting
• sculpture
• textiles
• printmaking (etching, silk screen, relief print)
• digital art (video, animation, Photoshop, net.art, projection, installation)
The course is designed to support your studies and to enable you to strengthen your position as an artist. The move from undergraduate to postgraduate study is characterised by the depth and focus of research and with the increasing sophistication of a critically reflexive material practice.
The emphasis of postgraduate research is on the intensity of autonomous study coupled with and supported by rigorous debate and interaction with staff, visiting artists and fellow students.
The course aims to enable you to achieve a critical reflective practice where studio work becomes the testing ground of methods, genres, concepts and contexts and challenges the boundaries and relationship between theory and practice.
