Ware Poets 30+ years of vibrant poetry & spoken word in Ware

Ware Poets meet monthly at Southern Maltings to enjoy poetry in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Everyone is always welcome, whether to read a poem or to simply enjoy listening.

Our evenings usually begin with an open mic session, when anyone can read a poem, followed by a reading by an invited guest poet. There is interval giving time to chat and a pop-up bar to purchase drinks.

We also run a highly regarded annual poetry competition and enjoy running poetry events in the community.

Over the years, we have had some spectacular guest poets including Carol Ann Duffy and Simon Armitage (former and current Poet Laureates), Jackie Kay and Kathleen Jamie (former and current Makars of Scotland), Daljit Nagra, Glynn Maxwell, George Szirtes, Hannah Lowe, U A Fanthorpe, David Constantine and Mimi Khalvati.

Our recent guest poets have included Patience Agbabi, Imtiaz Dharker, Pascale Petit, Keith Jarrett, Martin Figura, Helen Ivory, Fathima Zahra, Rebecca Watts, Paul Stephenson, Fahad Al-Ahmoudi and Hannah Copley.

We meet at Southern Maltings on the second Friday of each month (except August) from 8pm to about 10pm.
