Experimental Aluminium Etching – CREATE! Workshop
Day workshop
Saturday 2nd September 2017
11 – 3
£40.00
Tutor: Kate Desforges
Come and do some experimental etching! This short day workshop is all about getting away from the idea of etching as a long, labour-intensive process, and embracing its potential to create spontaneous, lively marks and images, using aluminium plates in place of the traditional and more costly zinc or copper – exploiting its properties to create bold, tonal prints.
You’ll be introduced to the basic principles of etching and ‘Intaglio’ printing. When etched with a solution of copper sulphate, aluminium tends to produce quite coarse marks, and for this reason it is not suitable for fine, detailed line work, but is fantastic for tone and texture. We will experiment with applying different kinds of ‘resists’ and mark-making directly onto the plate, with time for experimenting with inking and printing also.
If you have a hectic life and have to squeeze your creative time into a tightly-packed schedule, our CREATE! Saturday Sessions are for you! You can have your weekend morning lie-in, learn a new skill and indulge your creativity, and get home in time for tea! All our workshops are suitable for beginners and are taught by expert tutors, and the price of the course includes all materials.
